The financial performance of individual films is often reported, but less attention tends to be paid to the finances of the companies that make, sell and distribute them. Yet without these businesses those films and the industry that makes them would cease to exist. The overwhelming majority of these companies are small or medium sized (‘SMEs’). This BFI-commissioned study examines the financial results of a representative group of production, sales and distribution companies involved with successful UK films, updating an earlier study commissioned by the UK Film Council in 2009.
